Forest School Training

FINAL AMENDED FLYER LEVEL 1 KIRKLEES OCT 2017Learn About Forest School, Become A Heritage Woodland Champion, and Gain A Recognised Qualification.

We are pleased to announce that, in partnership with Pennine Prospects, we are running a Forest School Level 1 training course in October and November in Huddersfield.  This course is being subsidised as part of the South Pennines Woodland Heritage Project and participants can take part for half price, if they agree to take part in some follow-up work in their own setting (with our support).  This Heritage Lottery funding is aiming to create ‘Heritage Woodland Champions’ who will help children and young people engage with the natural environment.  The training is open to anyone, but we would particularly like to hear from community groups and organisations (including schools and nurseries) who don’t normally work outdoors.

The 3-day course would normally cost £250pp, but anyone signing up as part of the project can do the course for £125pp.  It will run over 3 Wednesdays (18th October, 1st November and 8th November) from 9am till 4pm, in Crosland Moor, Huddersfield and gives a basic introduction to and understanding of Forest School principles with a mixture of theory and practical skills.  This includes basic plant and animal identification, and safe use of tools with children and how the natural world can be used to support learning and develop key skills such as problem solving, creativity, self-esteem, resilience and confidence.   Over the 3 days you will also complete a simple portfolio demonstrating what you have learnt which leads to an NOCN (National Open College Network) accredited Level 1 qualification (the equivalent of NVQ Level 1, GCSE grade D-G  or a Foundation Diploma).  The course was created by Lily Horseman of Kindling Play and Training, who is the current Chair of the Forest Schools Association.

The course if being delivered by Jo Liversidge, Managing Director of Nature’s Footprints Forest Play and Training CIC.  Jo has been working in Forest School both in schools and her local community for 10 years and is a Level 4 accredited Forest School trainer.  She has over 20 years experience as a Primary School teacher and is a Thrive Practitioner and both Nurture Group and Forest School Lead.  She set up Nature’s Footprints 4 years ago in order to use her passion and expertise to develop and support children, young people and families in her local community.
